Back to Press releases

Nestlé has appointed Mr. Gordon Perrins as the new Business Development Manager for Mauritius and Seychelles. Perrins assumed responsibility for Nestlé Mauritius and its comprehensive portfolio of products across Breakfast, Coffee, Confectionery, Nutrition and Food categories. The role also overseas distribution operations in Seychelles.

Perrins has had a successful career at Nestlé East and Southern Africa (ESAR), spanning 40 years. He started with the business in 1982 in South Africa, and worked across different functions such as Sales Management, Brand Management, Trade Management and most recently, as Customer Business Manager out of South Africa.

Speaking about his new role, Perrins said, “It is an exciting opportunity to step into this role and lead the Nestlé business in the Indian Ocean region. We have been in-market since 1958, and our products have cemented their place in Mauritian homes because of their quality, affordability, and their much-appreciated taste. This is a legacy we have built together with the people of the Mauritius and Seychelles. I look forward to taking the reigns as a custodian of that trust and working closely with the team to grow it further.”

In his role, Perrins will continue to lead the business in its collaboration with esteemed business partners and authorities that include the Mauritius Sports Council, the Ministry of Education, and the Mauritius Institute of Education. In these partnerships, the business has introduced various initiatives such as the Nestlé for Healthier Kids programme, which reaches young people from the 258 primary schools on the island, and the Nestlé Breakfast Campaign to raise awareness of the importance of breakfast.

“Our purpose as a business is to unlock the power of food with the aim of enhancing a good quality of life for everyone today and for generations to come. That purpose comes alive in the way we do business, in progressing the nutrition, health and wellness agenda in Mauritius, and in delivering on our sustainability goals. With these strategic guardrails, we will continue to evolve our operations to eliminate unnecessary costs in our value chain, to provide affordable quality products. This is especially important given some of the challenges and pressures following the impact of Covid-19 in the region,” he continued.

Nestlé Mauritius launched the RE Sustainability Initiative in 2021 with the objective of improving the business’ environmental impact and leading change through rethinking, reducing and repurposing waste. Perrins’ role will include driving the business’ goal of ensuring that 100% of Nestlé products’ packaging is recyclable and reusable by 2025, reducing the use of virgin plastic by a third, while promoting and encouraging the model of the circular economy.

Perrins, whose appointment is effective 1st March 2022, succeeds Mr. Erkan Konak, who had been in the role for four years. Perrins will also be taking over Konak’s role as a member of the commerce group at the Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry council.
