NESTLÉ KITKAT celebrates a break with comedy.

Chocolate brand launches #whatadifferenceabreakmakes with four local comedians and a chance to win a trip to New York
Back to Press releases

For 87 years, ‘Have a Break, have a KITKAT”, has remained synonymous with the much-loved NESTLÉ KITKAT chocolate bar. More than a tagline, it is a call to action to take a break and come back with a smile. In that spirit, the chocolate brand is launching the What a Difference a Break Makes digital comedy series, featuring humourists Nina Hastie, Dillon Oliphant, Tumi Morake and Suhayl Essa.

“The break we are focusing on is not the classic tea break or even a holiday break. We want the whole of South Africa to take a break through comedy. We want to show consumers #WhatADifferenceABreakMakes, and encourage everyone to connect in moments of laughter,” said Janet Birk, Category Marketing Manager for NESTLÉ KITKAT at Nestlé South Africa.

Each of the four comedians perform in a five-minute comedy clip that can only be unlocked by participating in the campaign.

Dillon Oliphant broke onto the South African comedy scene as winner of the “Newcomer of the year” award at the Annual SA Comics Choice Award in 2012. He has been a regular feature as an opening act for Trevor Noah’s Nationwide Tour.

Nina Hastie is a seasoned South African stand-up comedian and TV host. Nina is described as totally relatable, hilarious and brings this funny bone to the NESTLÉ KITKAT #WADBM.

Tumi Morake, South Africa’s first lady of comedy is an award-winning comedian and one of the most sought after South African comedians. Tumi is the first woman to host Comedy Central presents on African soil. She is bold, she is sassy, and she simply cannot be ignored.

Suhayl Essa is a qualified medical doctor with a funny bone. He began comedy six years ago. Suhayl has been featured on multiple Comedy Central shows and has toured with many of South Africa’s renowned comedians including Kagiso Lediga and Loyiso Gola.

NESTLÉ KITKAT will also launch a six-part podcast series called, Take a Comedy Break. In each episode, the comedians will reflect our diverse South African realities, and through their comedy, give us all permission to reflect on what truly makes us special.

“Life already has enough stresses for people to let things get in-between them and miss a chance to enjoy a moment together. To get guaranteed access to the comedy content purchase a NESTLÉ KITKAT and unlock the comedy but also stand a chance to win a trip to New York," concluded Birk.

Follow @kitkatsa on Twitter and Facebook and @kitkatsouthafrica on Instagram for more information on how to participate. Take A Comedy Break is available for streaming and to download on Apple Podcasts, Google Play and YouTube. Visit https://www.nestle-esar.com  for further details.
