The luncheon was an opportunity to recognize the students and motivate those moving on to University as well as those deciding to join Tertiary Institutions or start their own businesses. During the luncheon, Mr. Ng’entu Njeru, MD for Nestlé Kenya and Kamau Kuria, MD for Coffee Management Services (CMS) shared inspiring words of encouragement to the students. This was supported with discussions from a motivational speaker on the ‘power of a dream.’ In the afternoon, the students participated in interactive exercises where five Nestlé employees were present to mentor the students during small breakout sessions.
The Coffee Aroma Scholarship unveiled in 2016 under the Nescafé Plan, is a Scholarship program aimed at providing High School education funding to brilliant and deserving children from coffee growing areas of Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi Nyeri and Kirinyaga Counties in Kenya.
Through our partnership with Coffee Management Services (CMS), coffee farmers under the Nescafé Plan initiative, have had the assurance that their children will receive the best education irrespective of their parents’ circumstances.
In the last four years, Nestlé and CMS have walked the journey with the students throughout their high school experiences, providing ongoing support and coaching to ensure they get the most out of their scholarship opportunity. The students have benefited from regular follow-ups, including annual motivation and mentorship workshops led by Nestlé employees, where they have had the chance to share their success stories and seek guidance from experienced professionals.
Our partner CMS has also played a critical role in the students' day-to-day lives, ensuring they do not miss school due to financial constraints and providing emotional support as needed.
The Coffee Aroma Scholarship has already benefited 32 students, and 18 more will complete their final year of high school in 2020. Nestlé plans to continue supporting these students with an exciting mentorship and motivational workshop. We are committed to helping these young individuals reach their full potential and achieve their dreams.
